FILM NOTES

DreamWorks Animation released Shrek in May 2001, marking a turning point for computer-generated feature filmmaking and signaling a confident challenge to Disney's long dominance of the animated genre. Directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, the film drew on William Steig's picture book while building something distinctly irreverent. Its commercial and critical success established DreamWorks Animation as a major force and launched one of the studio's most enduring franchises.

This 35mm cell, titled Shrek and Donkey, captures three consecutive frames from what appears to be an interior scene, purple drapery visible in the background. Mike Myers's Shrek occupies the foreground while Eddie Murphy's Donkey remains close by. The slight motion blur across the third frame suggests the shot was mid-action, lending the strip a sense of arrested movement.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
