DreamWorks Animation released Shrek in May 2001, marking a turning point for computer-animated feature filmmaking outside of Pixar. Directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, the film became a cultural touchstone and box office phenomenon, winning the inaugural Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Its irreverent humor and layered storytelling reshaped audience expectations for the genre and launched one of animation's most enduring franchises.
