DreamWorks Animation released Shrek in May 2001, marking a turning point for computer-generated feature films and offering a sharp, affectionate parody of fairy tale conventions. Directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, it became a cultural touchstone and the first winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
