DreamWorks Animation released Shrek in May 2001, marking a turning point for computer-animated feature films and for the studio itself. Directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, the film subverted fairy tale conventions with wit and warmth, earning the inaugural Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz led a cast that gave the characters genuine emotional weight, and the film's success established DreamWorks Animation as a lasting force in the industry.
