DreamWorks Animation released Shrek in May 2001, marking a turning point for computer-generated feature filmmaking and a deliberate challenge to the conventions of fairy-tale storytelling. Directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, the film became a cultural landmark and the inaugural winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, establishing DreamWorks as a serious rival in the animation landscape.

This 35mm cell, titled Shrek, captures three consecutive frames from a single shot, presenting the ogre Shrek in a dimly lit interior, visible from mid-torso upward. His green complexion and blue-purple vest are discernible against the dark surroundings. The sequential nature of the frames offers a rare glimpse into the film's rhythm at the level of individual celluloid moments.
