DreamWorks Animation released Shrek in May 2001, marking a turning point for computer-generated feature filmmaking and offering a self-aware fairy tale that resonated with audiences and critics alike. The film earned the inaugural Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and demonstrated that studios outside Disney could command the genre with wit and technical ambition.

This cell, titled Dragon and Donkey, captures the tense underground lair sequence in which Donkey first encounters Dragon. The frames emphasize Dragon's luminous slit-pupil yellow eye emerging from the surrounding darkness, with Donkey present within the cavernous setting.
