DreamWorks Animation and PDI released Shrek in May 2001, marking a turning point in computer-animated features. The film challenged Disney's dominance, won the inaugural Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, and launched one of animation's most successful franchises. Its irreverent humor and technical ambition made it a cultural landmark of early 2000s cinema.
