Columbia Pictures released Ghostbusters II in June 1989, reuniting the original cast five years after the first film became a defining comedy of the decade. Directed again by Ivan Reitman, the sequel brought the team back to a New York City threatened by a river of psychoreactive slime beneath the streets. While it never quite matched its predecessor's cultural footprint, the film remains a genuine artifact of late-1980s blockbuster filmmaking and a fond chapter in the franchise's history.
