Columbia Pictures released Ghostbusters II in June 1989, reuniting the original creative team five years after the first film became one of the highest-grossing comedies in history. Directed again by Ivan Reitman, the sequel brought back the core cast to face a river of psychoreactive slime beneath New York City. It arrived during a period of major franchise nostalgia and remains a significant artifact of late-1980s studio filmmaking.
