Columbia Pictures released Ghostbusters II in June 1989, reuniting the original cast and crew five years after the first film became a cultural phenomenon. Directed by Ivan Reitman, the sequel brought the team back to New York City facing a river of psychic slime beneath the streets. While it divided critics, it performed strongly at the box office and remains a genuine artifact of late-1980s blockbuster filmmaking, capturing the era's appetite for practical effects, ensemble comedy, and franchise storytelling.
