Paramount Pictures released Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in May 1984, the second installment in Steven Spielberg and George Lucas's adventure series following Raiders of the Lost Ark. Darker in tone than its predecessor, the film was a massive commercial success and helped prompt the creation of the PG-13 rating. It remains a defining artifact of 1980s blockbuster filmmaking and a cornerstone of the Indiana Jones canon.
