Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was released by Paramount Pictures in 1971, adapted from Roald Dahl's beloved novel. Though a modest theatrical performer at the time, the film found its true audience through television broadcasts and home video, cementing its place as a genuine cultural touchstone. Gene Wilder's casting proved transformative, his performance threading whimsy and unease in equal measure.
