FILM NOTES

Hocus Pocus was released by Walt Disney Pictures in July 1993, directed by Kenny Ortega. Though it performed modestly at the box office during its theatrical run, the film found a devoted second life through cable television and home video, becoming a genuine seasonal touchstone for an entire generation of viewers. Its blend of comedy, horror-adjacent atmosphere, and practical effects work reflects the particular sensibility Disney brought to family genre filmmaking in the early 1990s, and its cultural footprint has only grown in the decades since.

This three-frame cell captures Billy and Max in a tense nocturnal confrontation, the deep purple atmospheric lighting giving the sequence its unmistakable supernatural weight. The consecutive frames preserve the scene's stillness and dread in a way that a single image cannot, offering a rare sequential window into one of the film's more dramatically charged exchanges between the two figures.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
