Muppet Treasure Island was released by Walt Disney Pictures in February 1996, directed by Brian Henson and produced by Jim Henson Productions. The fourth theatrical Muppet feature arrived during a period of renewed studio confidence in the franchise following the success of The Muppet Christmas Carol. Blending Robert Louis Stevenson's classic adventure with the ensemble's signature comedy, the film performed respectably and has since earned a devoted following among collectors of practical puppetry cinema.
