FILM NOTES

Walt Disney Pictures released Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in the summer of 2003, adapting a theme park attraction into a full-scale adventure film that few expected to succeed. Gore Verbinski directed, and the picture went on to earn over 650 million dollars worldwide, launching one of the studio's most durable franchises. Much of that success rested on a single performance that redefined the blockbuster leading man.

This three-frame cell captures Captain Jack Sparrow in a confined, dimly lit space, his face angled toward vertical bars or slats as light falls unevenly across his features. A circular dark object, likely a lock or porthole fitting, appears at the right edge of the third frame. The sequence preserves a quiet, watchful moment from Johnny Depp's defining role.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
