Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl arrived in the summer of 2003 from Walt Disney Pictures and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, adapting a theme park attraction into a full-scale adventure film. Its success revitalized the swashbuckler genre and launched one of the studio's most enduring franchises, with Johnny Depp's performance earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
This cell, titled Captain Jack Sparrow, captures Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow silhouetted against a sweeping golden sky, ship rigging and a large red sail framing the figure above. Three sequential frames from the same continuous shot document a slight positional shift, preserving a rare glimpse of the film's iconic opening imagery on original 35mm.
