FILM NOTES

Walt Disney Animation Studios released Lilo & Stitch in June 2002, a film that marked a deliberate return to smaller, character-driven storytelling after the studio's more ambitious productions of the late 1990s. Set in Hawaii and built around themes of family and belonging, it became one of the most beloved films of the era. Promotional materials produced alongside the release, including crossover trailers pairing Stitch with classic Disney characters, are now considered genuine artifacts of early 2000s Disney marketing.

This cell, titled Stitch and Ariel, captures a sequential moment from that crossover promotional trailer. Stitch rides a surfboard against an open blue sky while Ariel's red hair and mermaid tail occupy the lower frame, her presence grounding the composition in the ocean setting the two characters briefly share. The sequential nature of the frames gives the cell a sense of motion frozen mid-scene.
