FILM NOTES

Edward Scissorhands was released by 20th Century Fox in December 1990, directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp in the title role. The film marked a defining moment in Burton's career and in American fantasy filmmaking, blending suburban satire with gothic fairy tale to lasting cultural effect. Shot by cinematographer Stefan Czapsky, its visual language drew heavily from 1950s Americana and German Expressionism, producing imagery that has remained iconic for over three decades.

This cell, titled Edward Scissorhands, captures three near-consecutive 35mm frames from a single shot featuring the title character — pale, dark-haired, dressed in white, with his distinctive scissor-blade hands prominent in the foreground. An American flag is visible behind him, grounding the moment in the film's suburban landscape. The slight variation in hair position across the three frames preserves a genuine sense of motion, offering collectors a rare window into the film's careful visual construction.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
