Cars 2 was released by Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures in June 2011, the studio's twelfth feature film. A departure from the original Cars, the sequel leaned into an international spy thriller format, taking its characters across Europe and Japan. It remains a notable entry in the Pixar catalog for its ambition in genre blending, even as it divided audiences at the time of release.
