Cars 2 was released by Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures in June 2011, the studio's twelfth feature film. A departure from the original Cars, the sequel leaned into an international spy thriller framework, taking its characters across London, Tokyo, and the Italian Riviera. It represented Pixar's most ambitious production design to that point, building an entirely vehicle-populated world at a global scale, and remains a distinctive entry in the studio's catalog for its genre experimentation.
This cell captures Mater mid-sequence, suspended against an open blue sky with debris scattered around him, the green ground visible below suggesting significant height and movement. The confirmed title Mater and Finn places this moment within one of the film's kinetic action passages, and the three frames together preserve the fluid progression of that airborne instant across a single strip of original 35mm theatrical film.
