Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies released The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie in November 2004, bringing Bikini Bottom's most beloved fry cook to the theatrical screen for the first time. Directed by series creator Stephen Hillenburg, the film served as his intended conclusion to the original series and stands as a landmark in early 2000s animated features, blending hand-drawn character work with live-action sequences and a surprisingly earnest story about self-worth.
