Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies released The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie in November 2004, bringing the beloved animated television series to the theatrical format for the first time. Directed by series creator Stephen Hillenburg, the film blended hand-drawn animation with live-action sequences and earned strong critical and commercial reception, cementing SpongeBob SquarePants as a defining cultural figure of the early 2000s.
