Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies released The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie in November 2004, bringing the beloved animated television series to the theatrical format for the first time. Directed by series creator Stephen Hillenburg, the film marked a creative milestone for Nickelodeon and demonstrated that the character could sustain a feature-length narrative.
