Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies released The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie in November 2004, bringing the beloved animated television series to the theatrical screen for the first time. Directed by series creator Stephen Hillenburg, the film was a commercial and critical success that cemented SpongeBob SquarePants as a defining cultural figure of its era. Shot on 35mm, the production carried a cinematic weight that distinguished it from its television origins.
