New Line Cinema released Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in December 2001, adapting the first volume of J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved trilogy. The film marked a turning point in epic fantasy filmmaking, earning widespread critical acclaim and launching one of the most ambitious production undertakings in cinema history. Its theatrical trailer generated enormous anticipation and stands as a cultural artifact of that moment.
This cell, titled Gandalf, Legolas and Gimli, captures three consecutive frames from the trailer showing the Fellowship navigating a snow-covered mountain pass, almost certainly Caradhras. The vertical title overlay reading The Fellowship of the Ring places these frames among the trailer's most recognizable images, preserving Gandalf, Legolas, and Gimli together against a stark, wintry landscape on 35mm film.
