FILM NOTES

New Line Cinema released The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in December 2001, launching one of the most ambitious fantasy trilogies ever committed to film. Peter Jackson's adaptation of Tolkien's beloved novel became a cultural landmark, earning widespread critical acclaim and enormous box office success. The promotional materials generated for the campaign were carefully crafted to build anticipation across a two-year release window, making original 35mm trailer footage a meaningful piece of early 2000s cinema history.

This cell, titled Aragorn, captures Viggo Mortensen's ranger against a rugged mountain backdrop, his dark attire conveying the character's weathered, wandering nature. The title card reading "The Return of the King - Christmas 2003" places this frame within the trilogy's broader promotional strategy, using a single image of Aragorn to quietly foreshadow his eventual destiny across three frames of the same striking composition.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
