New Line Cinema released Peter Jackson's adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring in December 2001, launching one of the most ambitious fantasy trilogies in Hollywood history. The film arrived at a cultural turning point, demonstrating that epic literary fantasy could command serious production resources and mainstream audiences simultaneously. Its theatrical trailer generated considerable anticipation throughout that year.
This cell, titled Gandalf and Gimli, captures a close-up moment from the trailer featuring the wizard Gandalf alongside the dwarf warrior Gimli set against a rugged mountain landscape with snow-capped peaks visible in the background. The three frames present the same shot from slightly varying crops, a natural artifact of the trailer's original 35mm print.
