FILM NOTES

Warner Bros. released The Matrix in March 1999, a science fiction film written and directed by the Wachowskis. The production drew on cyberpunk literature, Hong Kong action cinema, and philosophical inquiry to create a work that reshaped visual effects and action filmmaking for the following decade. Its influence on cinematography, editing, and cultural conversation about technology and reality remains substantial.

This cell captures Morpheus in close-up, his expression focused and deliberate against a dark, dramatically lit background. The three consecutive frames represent a sustained moment from what reads as an intense dialogue or confrontation scene, preserving the character's commanding screen presence across a continuous strip of original 35mm photographic film.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
