FILM NOTES

Warner Bros. released The Matrix in March 1999, a science-fiction action film written and directed by the Wachowskis. The film arrived at a pivotal moment in cinema, blending Hong Kong martial arts choreography, cyberpunk philosophy, and groundbreaking visual effects into a work that reshaped mainstream filmmaking. Its cultural footprint extended well beyond the box office, influencing action cinema, visual language, and popular philosophy throughout the following decade and beyond.

This cell carries three consecutive frames of Morpheus, portrayed by Laurence Fishburne, captured in close-up as he gazes upward against a deep, dark background. The repeated composition across all three frames gives the strip a meditative, almost portrait-like quality, isolating one of cinema's most commanding presences in a moment of quiet intensity.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
