FILM NOTES

Warner Bros. released The Matrix in March 1999, a science fiction thriller written and directed by the Wachowskis. The film arrived at a pivotal moment in cinema, blending Hong Kong action choreography, cyberpunk philosophy, and groundbreaking visual effects into a work that reshaped the genre and popular culture broadly. Shot on 35mm by cinematographer Bill Pope, its imagery carries a distinctive cool-green palette that became immediately iconic.

This cell, titled Neo Gets The Call, captures Keanu Reeves as Neo in what reads as a character portrait setup — hand raised near his head, dark shirt, neutral background. Three consecutive frames from the same shot preserve a quiet, composed moment that precedes the film's central transformation, making it a reflective rather than kinetic piece of Matrix history.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
