FILM NOTES

Warner Bros. released The Matrix in March 1999, a science fiction film written and directed by the Wachowskis. It arrived at a pivotal moment in cinema, blending Hong Kong action choreography, cyberpunk aesthetics, and philosophical inquiry into a mainstream Hollywood production. The film reshaped visual effects through its now-iconic bullet-time photography and left a lasting imprint on popular culture, spawning sequels, comics, and decades of academic discussion.

This cell captures Trinity in the sequence titled Matrix Explained, her black leather coat set against the dim industrial glow of a large server and telephone exchange rack array. The framing holds her in that charged environment where the nature of the simulated world begins to take shape, making this a quietly significant moment from one of cinema's most consequential films.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
