FILM NOTES

Warner Bros. released The Matrix in March 1999, a science fiction film written and directed by the Wachowskis. The production redefined visual effects through its pioneering use of bullet-time photography and reshaped the landscape of action cinema for the following decade. Drawing on cyberpunk literature, philosophy, and Hong Kong martial arts filmmaking, it became one of the most culturally discussed films of its era and remains a landmark of late twentieth century Hollywood.

This cell, titled Trinity - Matrix Explained, captures Trinity within a dark industrial environment lined with server racks and scaffolding, her black leather coat a defining element of the film's visual identity. The frames hold a quiet tension consistent with the scene's expository weight, preserving a moment central to how the film's world is revealed to the audience.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
