FILM NOTES

Warner Bros. released The Matrix in March 1999, a science fiction action film written and directed by the Wachowskis. Shot largely in Sydney, Australia, the production combined Hong Kong-influenced wire work, practical effects, and the now-iconic bullet-time photography technique. The film arrived at a moment when digital effects were reshaping Hollywood cinema, and its visual language went on to influence action filmmaking throughout the following decade. It remains one of the defining studio releases of its era.

This cell, titled Neo - Armed, captures Keanu Reeves as Neo across three frames drawn from an intense firefight sequence. Each frame documents a distinct beat of the action: muzzle flash erupting in the lower field, Neo directing his aim toward camera, and finally the smoke beginning to clear as the moment resolves. Together the frames form a tight, coherent record of one of the film's most kinetic passages.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
