FILM NOTES

Warner Bros. released The Matrix in March 1999, a science fiction action film written and directed by the Wachowskis. The production drew on cyberpunk literature, Hong Kong action cinema, and philosophical themes to create a work that reshaped visual effects and action choreography for the following decade. Its influence on mainstream filmmaking, particularly the widespread adoption of bullet-time photography, remains a defining marker of late-twentieth-century Hollywood.

This cell, titled Agent Smith, captures a rooftop pursuit or combat sequence featuring Agent Smith and Agent Jones, both in their characteristic dark suits. The three frames follow a continuous arc of motion across an urban exterior, preserving a brief but coherent passage of the film's kinetic action language in its original 35mm photographic form.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
