FILM NOTES

Warner Bros. released The Matrix in March 1999, arriving at a moment when science fiction cinema was ready to be reinvented. Directed by the Wachowskis, the film synthesized Hong Kong action choreography, cyberpunk philosophy, and groundbreaking visual effects into something genuinely new. Its influence on cinematography, editing, and popular culture proved immediate and lasting, making original 35mm elements from the production particularly significant artifacts.

This cell, titled Neo - Machine Gun, captures Keanu Reeves as Neo in a low-angle composition dominated by the imposing barrels of a rotary minigun mounted on a military vehicle. The three consecutive frames preserve a single continuous take, each offering a slightly shifted position within the same dramatic setup — a rare window into the film's kinetic action grammar held in analog silver.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
