FILM NOTES

Warner Bros. released The Matrix in March 1999, a science fiction film written and directed by the Wachowskis. It arrived at a moment when digital filmmaking techniques were reshaping what audiences expected from action cinema, and its blend of philosophical narrative with choreographed wire-work and visual effects earned it four Academy Awards. The film remains a defining work of its decade.

This cell captures the Bullet Time sequence, preserving three consecutive frames of Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, suspended in motion along a diagonal rope or chain within an interior stairwell setting. Across the three frames the figure progresses through the arc of the movement, with the final frame showing extended legs and visible motion blur, offering a rare look at the mechanics behind one of cinema's most recognized images.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
