FILM NOTES

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's The Lego Movie arrived from Warner Bros. Pictures in February 2014, a film that confounded expectations by delivering genuine wit and emotional depth beneath its toy-commercial premise. Animated entirely to resemble stop-motion photography, it became a cultural touchstone and a commercial triumph, demonstrating that animation built around a licensed property could carry real artistic ambition.

This 35mm cell, titled Vitruvius's temple by the operator, captures a sequence of three consecutive frames from what reads as a pivotal scene — a dark, imposing silhouette looming above a warmly lit brick-built structure below. The incremental motion across the frames preserves the illusion of movement that audiences experienced in theaters, a rare quality in single-cell preservation.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
