The Lego Movie was released in February 2014 through Warner Bros. Pictures, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Working against low expectations for a feature built around a toy brand, the film became a genuine creative achievement, blending anarchic humor with sincere themes about creativity and conformity. It performed exceptionally well commercially and earned broad critical respect, establishing a franchise while standing on its own as a thoughtful piece of animated filmmaking.
