Forrest Gump was released by Paramount Pictures in July 1994, directed by Robert Zemeckis from Eric Roth's adaptation of Winston Groom's novel. The film became one of the defining American pictures of its decade, earning six Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actor. Its blend of personal history against a sweeping national backdrop made it a cultural touchstone, and original 35mm elements from the production remain among the most sought by collectors.
