Forrest Gump was released by Paramount Pictures in the summer of 1994, directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks in the title role. The film swept that year's Academy Awards, taking six Oscars including Best Picture and Best Actor. Blending American history with intimate personal drama, it became one of the defining cultural touchstones of its decade and remains among the highest-grossing films ever produced.
