Forrest Gump was released by Paramount Pictures in July 1994, directed by Robert Zemeckis and based on Winston Groom's 1986 novel. The film became one of the defining cultural touchstones of its decade, earning six Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director. Shot on 35mm by cinematographer Don Burgess, its warm, naturalistic photography gave the story an intimate quality that matched its episodic, memory-driven structure.

This cell, titled Lt. Dan, captures Lieutenant Dan Taylor aboard the shrimping vessel during the Bubba Gump sequences. Across three nearly continuous frames, he appears shirtless and wearing a red headband, gripping an oar against an open water backdrop. Gary Sinise's portrayal of the embittered veteran earned him an Academy Award nomination, and these frames preserve a quietly iconic moment from that performance.
