FILM NOTES

Twentieth Century Fox released Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace in May 1999, marking George Lucas's return to directing after more than two decades. The film launched a prequel trilogy that expanded the Star Wars mythology for a new generation while reuniting longtime fans with a beloved universe. Shot on a combination of traditional 35mm and early digital formats, it represented a transitional moment in Hollywood filmmaking.

This cell, titled Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, captures three consecutive frames from what appears to be a tense, fire-lit confrontation sequence. The robed, silhouetted figure set against an intense orange backdrop reflects the dramatic visual language Lucas brought to both characters throughout the film.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
