FILM NOTES

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace was released by 20th Century Fox in May 1999, marking George Lucas's return to the director's chair after more than two decades. The film launched a prequel trilogy that expanded the mythology of one of cinema's most enduring franchises, drawing enormous global audiences and cementing 35mm exhibition as still the dominant theatrical format at the close of the century.

This cell captures Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi rendered as a dark silhouette against an intense orange-gold wall of fire, reflected in the surface below. The backlit composition strips the figures to their essential shapes, creating an image that feels both anonymous and iconic — two Jedi defined entirely by light and shadow.
