Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace was released by 20th Century Fox in May 1999, marking George Lucas's return to the director's chair after a twenty-two-year absence. The film launched the prequel trilogy and became one of the most anticipated theatrical events of its generation, drawing audiences back to a galaxy that had defined popular cinema since 1977.
