FILM NOTES

George Lucas returned to the director's chair for the first time in over two decades when Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox released Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace in May 1999. The film carried enormous cultural anticipation as the first chapter of the prequel trilogy, introducing a new generation to the Star Wars universe while reuniting longtime fans with a galaxy far, far away.

This cell, titled Darth Maul, captures Ray Park in close shot as the Sith apprentice, rendered in the film's characteristic deep reddish-brown tones that define his few but memorable scenes. The tight framing across three nearly identical frames emphasizes the quiet menace of the character, preserving a rare and atmospheric moment from one of cinema's most visually striking villains.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
