FILM NOTES

Lucasfilm's Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace arrived in May 1999 after sixteen years without a Star Wars theatrical release, carrying one of the most anticipated premieres in Hollywood history. Directed by George Lucas and distributed by 20th Century Fox, the film introduced a new generation to the saga while returning longtime fans to a galaxy they had grown up with. Shot on 35mm alongside early digital photography experiments, it marked a transitional moment in blockbuster filmmaking.

This cell, titled Obi-Wan Kenobi, captures frames from an interior action sequence featuring both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn, each present within a lightsaber engagement set against the close quarters of what appears to be a ship or hangar environment. The 35mm frames preserve the practical depth and grain characteristic of the film's photochemical photography, offering a direct physical record of two of the prequel trilogy's central figures in motion.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
