FILM NOTES

George Lucas returned to a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, released by 20th Century Fox in May 1999 after a sixteen-year absence from the franchise. The film launched the prequel trilogy, introduced a new generation to the Star Wars universe, and became one of the highest-grossing releases of its decade, cementing its place as a cultural landmark of late-twentieth-century cinema.

This cell, titled R2-D2 and C-3PO, captures a close-up sequence of R2-D2 against a warm, sandy background consistent with the film's desert and hangar environments. Kenny Baker inhabited the beloved astromech droid throughout the production, and Anthony Daniels brought C-3PO to life alongside him, making this pairing one of the most recognized in cinema history.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
