Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, reuniting director Robert Zemeckis and writer Bob Gale for a sequel that pushed the original's time-travel premise into ambitious new territory. Filming on Parts II and III proceeded simultaneously, and the production became a landmark of late-1980s blockbuster filmmaking, its vision of 2015 embedding itself permanently in popular culture.
