Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, reuniting director Robert Zemeckis and writer Bob Gale with the cast of their 1985 blockbuster. The sequel pushed into ambitious territory, sending Marty and Doc to a then-imagined 2015 and back to the events of the original film. It remains a landmark of late-1980s studio filmmaking and a touchstone of science fiction comedy.
This cell, titled Marty McFly Jr. and Marty McFly, captures three consecutive 35mm frames from the 2015 Hill Valley sequence in which Michael J. Fox shares the screen with himself. The frames show Marty McFly alongside Marty McFly Jr. inside a vehicle interior, with subtle motion differences across the trio documenting a brief, continuous moment from one of the film's most technically inventive scenes.
