FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, reuniting director Robert Zemeckis and writer Bob Gale for the long-awaited continuation of their 1985 phenomenon. The film pushed into ambitious territory, sending Marty and Doc to a then-distant 2015 before looping back through familiar events. It remains a cultural touchstone for its imaginative production design and its willingness to complicate the original's tidy ending.

This three-frame cell, titled Marty, Copernicus and Doc, captures Marty McFly, Emmett Brown, Jennifer Parker, and Einstein together in what appears to be the film's opening DeLorean arrival sequence. The consecutive frames offer a rare look at the full ensemble in a single sustained moment, with the third frame shifting slightly to favor Marty and Doc. A piece drawn from one of the story's most charged transitions.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
